What Is 3D Puff Embroidery?

3D puff embroidery uses a foam insert placed beneath the stitching to create a raised, three-dimensional appearance. The result is bold, tactile lettering and logos that command attention — especially on structured hats and caps where the effect is most dramatic.

Unlike flat embroidery, puff adds physical height to your design — typically 3–6mm of elevation — giving your logo a sculptural, high-end look that customers notice and remember.

Design Guidelines for Best Results

• Bold, simple lettering works best — Fine details and thin lines don’t translate well to puff embroidery.
• Minimum letter height of 0.5 inches — Smaller text loses definition with the foam backing.
• Block and sans-serif fonts — These hold their shape best in 3D puff.
• Works best on structured caps and heavier fabrics — Lightweight or stretchy fabrics may not support the foam insert as well.
• Partial puff is available — You can combine flat and puff embroidery in the same design (e.g., puff text with flat icon).

Will I see a proof before production?

Always. We send a digital proof for every order before we stitch anything. You’ll be able to confirm which elements are in puff before production begins.
